For Employers
- Are the skill shortages affecting your business?
- Are your tradespeople being lured by the promise of higher wages elsewhere?
- Do you want employees who can lead your business into the future?
What are Australian School-based Apprenticeships?
Australian School-based Apprenticeships are for students who are enrolled in Years 11 and 12 and want a trade career.
They apply through the Australian Technical College - Gladstone Region and are required to complete aptitude and skills testing to ensure their knowledge and abilities are suitable for their chosen trade.
Australian School-based Apprentices continue to study towards their Queensland Certificate of Education while working in a part-time, paid capacity with their employer. They are also required to complete competencies relevant to their chosen trade.
What this means is that students reduce their academic workload at school and spend time in your workplace gaining valuable skills to help grow your business in the future.
As of 2008, Australian School-based Apprentices will undertake a Certificate II in Business, Certificate II in IT and employability skills training, enabling them to be competitive in the world of business.
